Tienen, Landen, Linter, Zoutleeuw and Hoegaarden digitize the process of intake of public domain
TIENEN, June 29, 2022 – The municipalities of Tienen, Hoegaarden, Landen, Linter and Zoutleeuw have digitized the process for the intake of public domain in collaboration with the Getevallei Police Zone and Geosparc. In this way they guarantee safety on the public road and they always have an overview of where there are obstructuions. From July onwards, residents and contractors in the five municipalities involved (Tienen, Hoegaarden, Landen, Zoutleeuw, Linter) can easily submit an application via PC, tablet or smartphone. The process is handled completely digitally. Citizens who are less digitally savvy or who need help with the application are still welcome at the counter of the municipality.
There are many reasons to have intakes on the public road. Think, for example, of reserving a parking space for your moving van or placing a container during your renovations. In order to keep a good overview, the Flemish government set up the GIPOD database, the Generic Information Platform Public Domain. In this way we avoid conflicts and a street does not become an obstacle course with containers on the left and right.
For the digitization of this process, the police zone approached the autonomous provincial company VERA, the Flemish Brabant support center for e-government. After a thorough analysis, they wrote a public tender. This tender was awarded to the company Geosparc, which has configured its Spotbooking application for each of the five municipalities. The application has now been extensively tested by employees of the municipalities and the police, and will go go live from July 1st so that citizens and contractors no longer have to submit applications on paper.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for our residents. We do not only want to focus on ease of use for residents through digital applications, but we also want to guarantee safety for pedestrians and cyclists in our streets at the same time. Several municipalities of our police zone have taken the opportunity to adapt and simplify their regulations. This is also the case in Tienen, where a significant price reduction will also be implemented for the confiscation of the public domain.” explains Katrien Partyka, mayor of Tienen and chairman of the police college.
Stephan Gilis, chief of police of the Getevallei police zone, is also looking forward to the rollout of the application: “We are very pleased that we have been able to call on VERA to guide us in this complex digitization process. Thanks to this tool, it becomes much easier for my forces to do enforcement. They can easily see on their smartphone whether the necessary permit has been issued and can also easily report infringements.”
Kris De Pril, CEO of Geosparc, is very proud of the Spotbooking application they have developed: “Thanks to Spotbooking's pay-per-use model, both small and large municipalities can use the full Spotbooking solution. This project was an instructive yet challenging challenge for us to build a high-quality digital information platform for the 5 municipalities and PZ within all domains of public domain intake.”
